What You Need to Know Before Buying a 2-Post Lift

The act of buying a lift is simple, but the research behind it may be more complicated. There is a lot of information and research that goes into finding the best lift for your needs. That is why here at Advantage Lifts we provide all the information you may need to know before purchasing a lift. This article will serve as a guide providing all the information about our 2-post lifts.

There are two different types of 2-post lifts, an overhead model and a floor-plate model. The main difference between these two models is that one has an overhead bar connecting the two posts, while the other has a plate running across the floor connecting the posts. This helps to stabilize the posts while in use.

Advantage 2-post lifts have two different lift capacities, 10,000 lbs. and 12,000 lbs. The 10,000 lb. capacity lift is made to lift the standard car and smaller trucks. Larger vehicles such as SUVs and work trucks can be lifted with the 12,000 lb. capacity lift. Both lift capacities are manufactured in both the overhead and floor-plate models.

All 2-post lifts are required to be anchored into the ground to ensure the safety and stability of the lift. Due to being anchored into the ground, the flooring needs to be made up of concrete that is free of debris and seams with little to no slope. If using a 10,000 lb. capacity lift, the depth of the concrete needs to be 4.5". The depth needs to be 5" if a 12,000 lb. capacity lift is being used. The required depths paired with the capability to withstand 3,500 psi helps to reduce the risk of lift failure.

The 2-post lifts from Advantage Lifts are meant to fit into the standard garage. The recommended garage bay size for a 2-post lift is 12' tall by 12' wide by 24' deep. Having a ceiling height of 12' assures an overhead model has enough clearance. If you have lower garage ceilings, then a floor-plate model will be the best option. Floor-plate models only require a ceiling height of 9.5', allowing full use and access just like an overhead model. The other parameters are to make sure there is enough room to move around the lift without collision, as well as to make sure larger vehicles can properly fit on the lift.

Each of the 2-post lifts from Advantage Lifts is symmetrical. This means that each arm on the lift is holding an equal amount of the vehicle. This ensures that the vehicle is centered. The only downside to this design is that the doors on the vehicle are unable to be opened widely when on the lift. Symmetrical lifts allow for greater drive-thru clearance and more space between the posts than an asymmetrical lift.

Advantage 2-post lifts are perfect for both commercial garages and the everyday car enthusiast. We ship anywhere in the continental United States, making your lift accessible no matter where you are located.
